race history
The history goes back to 2014. Until 2016 the race was called GP of Izola. The goal was to connect all four coastal municipalities of Izola, Koper, Piran and Ankaran. As the brand Slovenska Istra was growing, we managed to connect all the municipalities and the race got a new name, Velika nagrada Slovenske Istre (Grand Prix of Slovenian Istria).

rACE COURSE
This year’s course has been redesigned. The start and finish remain in Izola, but are now located on Industrijska cesta, in front of the Dinit office building. The large laps are now ridden in the opposite direction, i.e. counterclockwise. After four large laps, riders complete three short laps, as last year, also counterclockwise.
The opening section of the large lap runs through city streets, then continues toward Belvedere and on through Strunjan, Lucija, Sečovlje, and Dragonja. This is followed by the climb to Šmarje (3.6 km / 5.2%). At the top, the course turns left toward Gažon and continues through Barede to Livade. A descent follows, then a sharp right turn onto the Livade–Polje road, which leads to the main road and then back toward Industrijska cesta.
The large lap measures 35.6 km (except for the first lap, which is 32.5 km). This is followed by three varied laps of 8.7 km each.
